In this classic thriller, popular romance novelist Paul Sheldon, driving while inebriated, has a very serious accident.  When he regains consciousness, he finds himself in a farmhouse cut off from the outside world by a blizzard and in the care of a sociopathic, homicidal woman, claiming to be his number one fan.  His legs, crushed in the accident, condemn him to virtual imprisonment in her care.
