What a great two nights of auditions! Thank you so much to everyone that auditioned for SLT’s Shrek The Musical Junior! The talent displayed by all of you was a joy to witness and much appreciated.
If your name appears below, please wear something that you feel comfortable moving in, and bring a mask and a water bottle.
If you consider yourself an intermediate to advanced tapper for your age, please bring tap shoes. If you don’t already own a pair of tap shoes you do not need to go buy them!
Due to limited space, we invite parents to wait on the 3rd floor for the early portion of callbacks. A streaming link to view callbacks will be provided.

Springfield Little Theatre has been Springfield’s COMMUNITY THEATRE since 1934 (that’s 87 years!). With opportunities for every age and skill level, it’s never been easier to get involved.

Here’s some ways to participate in the arts in your community.

The Springfield Little Theatre Associate Board is a networking, party throwing, theatre going, board of young professionals. TECH NIGHT: August 10, 2021 at 7:00 PM

Interested in helping with Costumes, Sets, Lighting, Sound, Props, Painting, or working on the Backstage Crew? Join us at the Landers Theatre for TECH NIGHT, a meet and greet with SLT’s veteran Technical Directors. Apply your skills and learn new skills while helping Missouri’s largest and oldest civic theatre produce their mainstage shows! From teenagers to retirees there are a wealth of ways to get involved behind the scenes.

No need to RSVP, just come to the Landers Theatre at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 10th.

2021-2022 Troupe Auditions

The Springfield Little Theatre youth performance troupe program seeks, nurtures, and develops focused young performers. Auditions are held annually and each troupe group remains together for the entirety of the season/academic year. Membership offers students a stimulating, fast-paced rehearsal environment; a sense of belonging; an investment in community; discounted class sessions at SLT; performance opportunities; and enthusiastic guidance from a caring and creative staff.

All troupers learn the values of accountability, discipline, teamwork, kindness, hard work, and play, attributes that will serve them in any of their future endeavors, and are instilled with a lifelong love and appreciation for the arts.

ELEMENTARY TROUPE AUDITION INFORMATION

Students entering grades 2-5 are encouraged to audition for our Elementary Musical Theatre Troupes as well as our Elementary Acting Troupe!

AUDITION DATES
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade | Wednesday, August 18, at 4:00 PM
  • 4th & 5th Grade | Thursday, August 19, at 4:00 PM
ABOUT THE AUDITION
  • Auditioning troupers should prepare a 32 Measure (~1 minute) vocal selection for their audition
  • Auditioning troupers will be taught a musical theatre dance combination
  • Students do not need to audition for Elementary Acting Troupe, they only need to indicate interest on their audition forms
ELEMENTARY TROUPE CAMPS 
  • Elementary Acting Troupe: August 30-September 2 from 4:00-4:30 PM
  • Troupers in Training: August 30-September 2 from 4:30-5:30 PM

  • Troupers In Training rehearsal every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 PM beginning September 8, 2021
  • Two excused absences per semester; One unexcused absence per semester
  • Troupers In Training Annual Tuition–$400
  • Elementary Troupes Annual Tuition–$450
  • (Choose 1 annual payment, 2 semester payments, or 10 monthly payments)
ELEMENTARY ACTING TROUPE COMMITMENTS
  • Elementary Acting Troupe rehearsal every Wednesday from 4:00-4:30 PM beginning September 8, 2021
  • Elementary Acting Troupe Annual Tuition–$150 (Choose 1 annual payment, 2 semester payments, or 10 monthly payments)
  • Must also be a member of Young Artists or Landers Kids, and fulfill the commitments outlined above

Students entering grades 6-8 are encouraged to audition for our Musical Theatre Troupes (Youth Players/Showstoppers/Intermediate Players) as well as our Acting Troupe (Middle School Thespians).

AUDITION DATES

Please choose one of the following dates to audition:

  • Monday, August 16, at 4:00 PM
  • Tuesday, August 17, at 4:00 PM
ABOUT THE AUDITION

For musical theatre troupes:

  • Perform a memorized vocal selection (32 measures only). Bring sheet music. A piano player will be provided. Musical theatre selections preferred.
  • Auditioning troupers will be taught a musical theatre dance combination.
  • Provide a 300 word essay explaining your interest in the arts and in the SLT youth performance troupe program. If you’re auditioning for Musical Theatre troupes and Middle School Thespians, you need only submit one essay.

  • Perform a prepared monologue (one minute or less). Can be found or self-authored.

Now I stand out from the crowd…

We are very excited to announce that the role of “Lola” in Kinky Boots will be played by NYC actor and SLT alum, Brandon Looney.

When we talked to Brandon about the opportunity, he said, “I am incredibly touched to get to perform on the very stage where it all began. Helping spread Kinky Boots’ message of love, inclusion, and representation matters the world to me. And there’s no better place to do it than through my hometown community. I step into the role of LOLA with love and light, showing the world you can ‘be who you wanna be’. All that matters is just BE!”

110 years ago the Legacy of the Landers Theatre began. Opening with the The Golden Girl starring Lillian Russell, The landers then served as a venue for vaudeville, endured a devastating fire, was an early adopter of movies with sound, became the first television studio to broadcast in color outside of New York or LA, operated as a first run movie theatre, and, has been home to the Springfield Little Theatre for 50 years.

With thoughtful preservation, The Landers Theatre has stood the test of time while entertaining generations of our community, making it worthy of the title “The Crown Jewel of the Ozarks”.

THE SHOW MUST GO ON…

March 24, your community will come together to RALLY FOR RECOVERY for 198 area non-profits. SPRINGFIELD LITTLE THEATRE is so proud to be a part of the community we serve and are so grateful for the opportunity to GIVE OZARKS! Together, we will rally for recovery and never cease to entertain, educate, involve our community, preserve the Landers Theatre or DARE TO DREAM.
